Camping Supplies

Camping Supplies

Using the proper, high quality outdoor gear is the key to having a safe and enjoyable outdoor experience. Whether you’re hiking 100 miles, hunting deer, or just camping with friends, nothing ruins a good time faster than broken or unusable equipment. Camping supplies are much easier to find now in everyday stores, but many beginning campers make the mistake of buying whichever tent their local store sells. These tents are usually very low quality, made with inferior materials, and easy to break.

By buying a high quality tent, you can camp in almost any situation and trust that your tent will hold up. It’s also possible to find much more durable and protective tents by shopping with an experienced outdoor gear dealer. Tents are available that provide protection from below freezing temperatures, that can be pitched on the side of a steep hill, or that shed water extremely well for wet conditions. These kinds of tents can’t be found in most big box stores.

Even occasional or hobby campers should invest in a decent quality tent. Camping in one of the lower quality dome tents is not always the most fun experience. Leaks are common, as well as drafts from poorly placed netting or badly sewn seams. Many beginners assume that when camping in a tent, it’s just not possible to be comfortable. But once they get a chance to spend the night in a real camper’s tent, they find out that it’s simply not true.

Eureka Tents makes some of the highest quality solo or double occupancy tents on the market today. The company was founded in 1895, and has produced tents for use in World War 2. Tents from Eureka are trustworthy, and designed to withstand fairly extreme weather conditions. But Eureka also produces higher occupancy tents, up to 7 people, for less rugged experiences. These tents are still very well made, and of a much higher quality than you will find in the sports section of a large store.

Of course, a tent is only one of the camping supplies a well prepared outdoor enthusiast needs. A portable water filter is a great thing to have, especially if camping or hiking far into unpopulated forest or National Parks. Prepared hikers always pack enough water, but it’s possible to lose the packed water, for the containers to break open and spill, or for the water to become polluted and dangerous to drink. Carrying a portable water filter can be the difference between life and death, especially on long hikes.

These small and portable filters can remove particles, sediment, and bacteria out of any water source. This makes the water cleaner than simply boiling, and works faster and without a fire. By carrying a water filter a hiker can shed the weight of heavy and cumbersome water containers, and can keep moving while drinking instead of stopping to build a fire at every stream or river. Filtering bags with a drip line can also be bought for established camps, and can hold up to 50 gallons of filtered water at a time. The hanging bag also protects the water from being re-contaminated or spilled.

Hunting, Shooting, Camping Supplies sells discount crossbows, gun accessories including safes and cases, Eureka tents, rifle scopes, knives and tools, and other outdoor gear from top manufacturers.

Deer Hunting Gifts

Deer Hunting Gifts

Whether it is for the holidays, a birthday or some other occasion finding a gift for the deer hunter in your life can be a difficult task. Being a hunter and being around other hunters has given me the insight to know what it is we typically like to receive. This list of deer hunting gifts isn’t exhaustive, but it is a good start and you could definitely get away with something listed below. If you have any other ideas for things to be added to the list, let us know and we’ll get it updated!

Rifle or Shotgun & Ammunition – Can be purchased at most sporting goods stores. Better yet, a gift certificate to Cabela’s, Bass Pro Shops or a local Gun Shop would also suffice. Binoculars / Spotting Scope – Bushnell, Leupold and Nikon are brands that typically receive very high marks in effectiveness and durability. Rifle Scopes – Again, Leupold, Bushnell and Nikon make excellent rifle scopes. Another brand to check out is Trijicon, who makes an excellent red dot scope. Camouflage clothing – Take into consideration the type of hunting that the person you are buying for is involved in and what season he or she hunts as this definitely should play a role in the type of camo purchased. If you have any questions about specific camouflage patterns, don’t be afraid to ask a sales associate. After all, that is what they are paid for! Hunter’s Orange – Vests and hats are always welcome as more and more states have safety orange requirements. Recipe Books – What better way to put your harvested animal to use than on the dinner table. There are recipe books for singular game animals like deer or elk or books covering most big game species. Hunting Club Membership – Do some research and find local hunting clubs with the best reviews. Also inqiure about the number of hunters per 100 acres and shoot for the lowest ratio which ultimately means less hunting pressure on a piece of land.

3 Economical Ways to Save on Your Next Hunting Extravaganza

3 Economical Ways to Save on Your Next Hunting Extravaganza

Are you a hunting enthusiast? If you’re, I’m certain you’ll recognize that hunting can be a rather expensive pursuit. Particularly with all that hunting knives, rifles scopes, rifles, accessories purchase etc. And not to forget, those self financed hunting campaigns. But before you abandon your passion for hunting, here are some alternatives you can use to alleviate the situation.

(1) Get Used Rifles Besides Brand New Ones

An innovative way to cut down the cost of your hunting hobby is to buy used rifles. If you’re doing this the right way, trust me, it can add up to the savings quickly. A new rifle can cut you back by at least a few hundreds and naturally, branded ones can be more expensive.

To cut down this cost expenditure, you’ll need to find a dealer that distributes used rifles. Doublecheck on the seller’s reputation to make sure that the rifle was legally used before being resold. Remember, always insist on an inspection. Some used rifles look good in theory but when handled, are pretty worthless.

Be aware of a few things when you’re inspecting the used rifle. For a start, make sure there’s no corrosion around the firing pin area. Otherwise, the rifle you’re looking at, probably wasn’t well taken care of by its previous owner.

Next, check to see if the bolt’s working. Try pulling the bolt backwards and let it slam forward. The firing pin will still be intact if it’s a good rifle. Last but not least, ensure that the grooves in the barrel has no rust and the rifle’s bore is clean too.

For those of you thinking of buying such rifles online, you may want to reconsider. Such purchase is heavily regulated and weapons bought online has to be sent to a Federal Firearms License holder for a detailed check before it’s releaseto you. This may lengthen the entire purchasing cycle. The savings from the purchase may also be eroded by service fees charged by the FFL holder.

(2) Shop For Rifle Scopes & Other Hunting Accessories Online

Getting accessories such as rifle scopes, hunting knives via the internet is very different from getting guns online. For a start, it’s pretty hassle free. You may also find better prices in renowned online stores. Since such stores have lower operational costs, their savings are usually transferred back to the customer, hence making their prices much more attractive than your local stores.

A Nikon Monarch Matte BDC 2.5-10×42, for instance can be 30% cheaper online than what you’ll probably get from your neighbourhood store! For better bargains, check out what some of the sellers are giving out on eBay. Some products are available for bidding at .01!

(3) Join Group Safaris

A solo hunting campaign is doesn’t come cheap. Several thousands of dollars. Maybe even tens of thousands. Pooling resources with your hunting mates can help you save a bundle on guide fees, lodging and other travelling expenses! In fact, there are many agencies that provide special group safaris at discounted prices.

Doing away with the expense of a guide can help you save more, especially if you’re a seasoned hunter and are pretty familiar with the remote surroundings. But bear in mind that if you’re just starting out or new to the terrains, getting a guide may actually be the best decision! As it can help you cut down wasted time and hassle!

Regardless, it’s important to always conduct your own research and be discreet. Remember, whatever works for others may not necessary work for you. But I’m sure there’s no harm just hunting around. For bargains I mean.

Leupold Scopes ? Seeing is Believing!

Leupold Scopes ? Seeing is Believing!

In addition to the power of reasoning and innate intelligence, humans were able to dominate this planet through their better view of the environment, and putting this advantage to the hilt has been achieved by many in the contemporary era through Leupold scopes.  These products are manufactured by the American company Leupold & Stevens Inc. which has been manufacturing precision optical instruments for 100 years. The company’s products over these years have established their mark in sports shooting, wildlife and general observation, and law enforcement and military applications.

In fact, it was in World War II when Leupold scopes established themselves as dependable and high quality instruments.  During the war, the company supplied rifle scopes for the US Army and worked with the American Navy for optics used aboard its war vessels.  It is from these endeavors that Leupold developed the techniques in waterproofing and durable construction found in its products today.

Sports hunters will be pleased to know that Leupold scopes for hunting were developed as a result of one of the company founders’ interest in the sport.  This company co-founder, Markus Leupold, it has been told, was out hunting one day and missed a deer shot when his scope fogged up. This incident egged him and the company on to develop a more dependable and high-performance optics not only for shooting but for other applications as well.

Today, in addition to civilian use, Leupold scopes are part of standard issue equipment for the US Army, the Navy SEALS, the Secret Service, the Marine Corps and the US Navy. Superior optical quality, absolute ruggedness and waterproof integrity are the qualities which have made the Leupold product an endearing piece of equipment to their users.

Consumers are offered a wide array of choices for a variety of uses.  Leupold has scopes coming in yet several models for shooting and hunting, such as rifle scopes and spotting scopes.  For general observation use, there are many models for binoculars and rangefinders, as well as especially designed modular flashlights.

All Leupold products carry a lifetime guaranty to deliver bright and crystal clear image resolutions within their designed ranges, in addition to their rugged dependability and absolute waterproofing. To make the most out of the Leupold scopes, an appropriate type of product should be chosen based on the specific application and the users’ individual make-up.

For instance, choice of a pair of binoculars, full size or compact models, would be influenced if a person is wearing eyeglasses.  The location of the observation, what is to be observed (e.g. game, birds or butterflies) and for what purpose (hunting, camping, hiking or nature observation) are also factors to consider.  Some Leopold scopes would be more suitable, for example, as a tool in viewing stadium sporting events and performances, while other products are best for theatrical audiences.

Age and size of the individual, particularly the hands, are also important considerations. People with some vision problems would also have specific Leopold scopes that would suit them best.  True to its vision of giving consumers a square deal, the Leupold company has put all these considerations together in a chart available at its website that should prove most helpful in determining what is the best Leupold scopes from which various individuals can make their appropriate choice.

All About Redfield Rifle Scopes

All About Redfield Rifle Scopes

For those of you that don’t know Redfield scopes have been manufactured for almost 100 years now. This is a long time for any company to exist – regardless of what they actually produce. Originally the scopes from Redfield were produced in Colorado; however, a few years ago the company was bought out by Blount and the line was actually discontinued for a time.

While Redfield had enjoyed a popular history and was at one time known as one of the best known and most popular brands in the industry by the 1990’s Redfield was finding it hard to keep up with the competition in the industry. Companies like Leupold were putting increasingly intense pressure on others in the market and Redfield was finding it difficult to stay afloat. There seemed to be no other choice but to pull the Redfield scopes line from the market altogether and lick their own wounds.

This all changed, almost at he last moment, when Meade stepped into the picture and took over Redfield. Meade themselves have become well known for their excellent quality telescopes over the years and moving into rifle optics made perfect sense. Several other companies were acquired by Meade at the same time and Redfield now has its home in Georgia; where the 4 Redfield lines of scopes are now produced. They are Golden Five Star, the Tracker, the Widefield and the Illuminator.

Some of the current Redfield scopes are actually nothing truly “new”. The Widefield scope, for example, was in production long before Redfield found themselves in difficulty. This particular scope features an oval ocular as well as objective lens that allows you to mount the scope lower on your rifle while providing a much wider view that you would normally be able to obtain.

While the design itself certainly looks a bit strange and is a step away from the normal design of many scopes, there is no denying the fact that this unique design delivers perfectly. When hunting in close range, you can’t ask for a better image delivery. In tests, the Widefield produces images that are some 30% larger than similar scopes. In addition to a design that truly does deliver, Redfield is continuing to produce high quality pieces built with a rugged aluminum alloy tube that can withstand some fairly rough terrain and treatment.

With Meade now running the show Redfield will not now honor warranties on older Redfield scope models. The company does, however, offer a lifetime warranty on all new scopes manufactured and sold under the direction of Meade themselves.

Finding a wide range of rifle scopes from Redfield isn’t as hard as you might think. Check out ScopesGuide dot com for more information on finding the rifle scope of your dreams.

Choosing A Suitable Rifle Scope

Choosing A Suitable Rifle Scope

When planning to purchase a scope you need to think about the following issues: price range you can afford, durability of the scope, power settings, reticle, accessories, size of the objective and low light capabilities. With this article we will try to present each of these issues:

a) Price range – there are many scopes available for purchase starting from 100$ to thousands of dollars. Most likely, you will get a scope that has a price between 400$ and 1200$. Many people affirm you should spend at least as much on your scope as you do your rifle. There are plenty of good models out there in each price range. You have to decide on what price range you want while looking at the rest of the features.

b) Durability – regardless of the scope you plan on purchasing, you need to do some test with the adjustments. We recommend that you can shoot a square with it. It does not have to be perfect but shoot two shots afterwards move it left ten clicks, shoot two more. Next, move it up ten clicks, shoot two more. Move it right ten clicks, shoot two more. Lastly, move it down ten clicks and shoot two more. Your last two shots should be close to your first two.

c) Power settings – If you just need to see the target whatever the distance a power setting not more than a 10-14x model for closer distances will do just fine. On the contrary, if you need to tell the difference between Buchie and Charlie before you put a bullet in him you might want a variable up to a 20 power. When choosing the power, you need to know that the higher the power, the more wind and mirage will distort the much important clarity.

d) Reticle – we recommend that you take a look at Leupold’s reticle page to get a clearer image about what you are searching for.

e) Accessories – you have plenty of choices in this area: rings, scope covers, bases and many more. For a first time hunter, we recommend that you do not spend a lot of money on accessories.

f) Size of the objective – if you purchase a larger objective, you will have more light that you will be able to gather into the scope.  If it is getting somewhat darker, the crosshairs inside a larger objective lens will be visible longer, giving you a strong advantage. It also is bigger so it raises the scope up above the barrel higher so you will need higher rings and a higher cheek piece.

g) Low light capabilities – you have a choice between ILR – illuminated articles, night vision scopes and other NVD – night vision devices. If you plan on purchasing a model that requires batteries, remember to purchase extra batteries so that you will not remain without power.

As you can see, there are a lot of issues to be taken into consideration prior to purchasing a scope. Make sure that you take your time when selecting the suitable rifle scope because it plays a major part in your hunting adventure.
